Programme
Die AlmResidency ist eine Künstler*innen-Residency in den bayerischen Voralpen. Seit nunmehr neun Jahren kommen jährlich fünf Kunstschaffende für eine intensive zehntägige Arbeits- und Forschungszeit in zwei abgelegenen Hütten zusammen. Die Ochsenhütte, mit ihrer über hundertjährigen Geschichte, bietet drei Künstler*innen eine inspirierende Heimat mitten im dichten Wald. Der Ofen spendet wohlige Wärme, während der nahegelegene Bach klares Wasser liefert. Höher gelegen öffnet das Jagaheisl zwei weiteren Residents Raum für kreatives Schaffen. Der schlichte Duschplatz mit Gießkanne vor der Hütte schenkt einen weiten Blick hinab ins Tal. Mit mittlerweile 42 internationalen Residents hat sich die AlmResidency zu einer anerkannten, über die Grenzen Bayerns hinaus geschätzten Kulturinstitution entwickelt.
Open Call
Seit Beginn legt die AlmResidency ein ganz besonderes Augenmerk auf den Open Call, der explizit Kunstschaffende jeden Alters, jedes Kulturhintergrundes, jeder sexuellen und religiösen Orientierung zur Bewerbung aufruft und somit jährlich eine maximal inklusive Besetzung der Residency anstrebt. Um die Auswahl der KünstlerInnen so abwechslungsreich und transparent wie möglich zu gestalten, laden wir jährlich eine/n wechselnde/n GastjurorIn ein. Für das Jahr 2024 hatten wir die Ehre die Kuratorin und Künstlerin Anna Schölß im Teams haben.
International
In den letzten drei Jahren hat es sich die AlmResidency zudem zur Aufgabe gemacht jedes Jahr mindestens eine/n internationale/n KünstlerIn auf die Hütten in Oberbayern einladen zu können. Wir durften Kulturschaffende aus Brasilien, Litauen, Peru, Japan, Südkorea sowie Pakistan und Tunesien willkommen heißen.
Unseren Residents bietet die AlmResidency ein außergewöhnliches Arbeits- und Forschungsumfeld. Ein Wald-Workshop mit unserem Forstwirt Leonhard Bendel gewährt erste Einblicke in die Wald- und in Wildtierpflege. Beim daran anschließenden Abendessen mit Zutaten direkt aus der Natur zaubert unser Koch „Freddy“ (Frederic Müller) aus dem Tegernseer Land gemeinsam mit unseren KünstlerInnen ein neues Bewusstsein für die lokale Flora und Fauna auf die Teller. Am letzten Tag der Residency organisiert das Team eine gemeinsame Kunstwanderung. Eingeladen sind AnwohnerInnen des Landkreises Miesbach, Kunstinteressierte aus dem Umland sowie aus München. Die TeilnehmerInnen entdecken auf dem Streifzug den Wald und die zwei Hütten, während die Residents erste intime Einblicke in ihren künstlerischen Prozess und ihren Alltag gewähren.
Ausstellung in München
Nach Ende des Aufenthaltes geht es für unsere Residents in die eigentliche Produktionsphase. Ideen und Eindrücke von den Hütten werden weiterverfolgt und Kunstwerke kreiert. Arbeiten zur Installation im Wald entstehen, welche das ganze Jahr über gesucht und gefunden werden können. Zusätzlich kommt im Frühjahr des Folgejahres die Kunst vom Land in die Stadt. Die AlmResidency lädt die KünstlerInnen dazu ein, ihre fertigen Werke während einer Ausstellung in München zu präsentieren.

The AlmResidency is an artist residency in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. For nine years now, five artists have gathered annually for an intensive ten-day period of work and research in two secluded mountain huts. The Ochsenhütte, with its history spanning over a century, offers three artists an inspiring home in the heart of a dense forest. The stove provides comforting warmth, while the nearby stream supplies fresh water. Higher up, the Jagaheisl gives two more residents space for creative work. A simple outdoor shower with a watering can in front of the hut offers a sweeping view down into the valley.
Open Call
Since the beginning, the AlmResidency has paid special attention to the Open Call, which explicitly invites artists of all ages, cultural backgrounds, sexual and religious orientations to apply and thus strives for a maximally inclusive cast for the residency each year. In order to make the selection of artists as diverse and transparent as possible, we invite a changing guest juror each year. For 2023, we were honored to have the curator and artist Anna Schölß on the team.
International
In the last three years, the AlmResidency has also set itself the task of inviting at least one international artist to the huts in Upper Bavaria every year. We have welcomed artists from Brasil, Lithuania, Peru, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan and Tunisia.
The AlmResidency offers our residents an exceptional working and research environment. A forest workshop with our forester Leonhard Bendel provides first insights into forest and wildlife management. At the subsequent dinner with ingredients directly from nature, our chef "Freddy" (Frederic Müller) from the Tegernseer Land conjures up a new awareness of the local flora and fauna on the plates together with our artists. On the last day of the residency, the team organises a joint art walk. Residents of the district of Miesbach, art lovers from the surrounding area and from Munich are invited. On the walk, the participants discover the forest and the two huts, while the residents provide their first intimate insights into their artistic process and everyday life.
Exhibition in Munich
After the end of the residency, our artists enter the actual production phase. Ideas and impressions from the huts are followed up and artworks are created. Works for installation in the forest are created, which can be searched for and found throughout the year. In addition, in the spring of the following year, art comes from the country to the city. The AlmResidency invites the residents to present their finished works during an exhibition in Munich.
